The Craft of the Cocktail
Dale DeGroff - 2002
Dale DeGroff describes the Suffering Bastard as basically a Mai Tai with orange juice — and builds it with a split rum approach, shaking the aged rum with the modifiers but floating the funky Jamaican rum on top rather than mixing it in, so the high-ester Smith & Cross hits the nose first as an aromatic layer before you reach the citrus-orgeat base underneath.
