Dale DeGroff tells the story behind the Ward Eight — created in 1898 at Boston's Locke-Ober to celebrate a local politician's victory, who ironically became a Prohibitionist embarrassed by his ward's fame over a drink — and builds it as a bourbon sour with grenadine replacing some of the simple syrup, a dual-sweetener approach that adds pomegranate depth without going fully sweet.
